Why a shared we
This is personal before it is institutional.
Neti Neti is the public expression of our collective will. It grows from what each of us has learned through education, family, work, migration, and the life and values we have built together.
Nishant is more likely to ask what could be possible. Neeti is more likely to ask what another person needs.
Neither perspective is complete on its own. Together, they shape how we decide where to place our trust and resources.

What gave us room to choose.
Work
Our means come from ordinary working lives, not a company sale or stock grant. Nishant is an educator; Neeti is an interior designer. We are fortunate, but we are not unusually wealthy.
Opportunity
Our parents made it possible for both of us to complete our education without debt. We could begin adult life saving for our futures rather than repaying our pasts. We recognize the privilege in that.
Anonymous donors were part of Nishant's story too. Scholarship support helped him attend Asheville School, Washington University in St. Louis, and Teachers College at Columbia University, reducing the cost his parents carried while they paid what remained.
Choice
In 2001, at twenty-one, Nishant took an education job in Dallas paying $32,000 a year. Some college friends went to Wall Street for three or more times as much, but debt did not dictate his choice. He could support himself and do work he wanted to do.
Steady work and disciplined saving and investing gave us more room over time. As our incomes grew, we increased what we saved. We are trying to grow what we give and invest in others the same way. The amounts have changed; the habit matters more.
A question we keep returning to
We have enough.
For us, enough is not austerity or a fixed number. We enjoy our lives and sometimes indulge in things we value. But every increase in what we have need not become only more for us. We expect the line to move as life changes. We do not want it to move without end.
